2006 Global Online Survey of Healthcare Bloggers

1 min read

The 2006 Global Online Survey of Healthcare Bloggers aims to characterize the opinions and motivations of the growing community of healthcare bloggers. It was an attempt (albeit not scientific and thus cannot be generalized to the overall healthcare bloggers) it is a method to determine the pulse of the actively evolving group of medical bloggers. Let us look at the summary of the report.

Healthcare blogs included in this survey devout 30% of their blog post to healthcare. Many of these bloggers share opinions and and aims to educate others but do so anonymously, if only to protect themselves, their patients and their families. Approximately half of these medical bloggers view each others statement critically but trust them to encourage open and unbiased commentary. Many bloggers believe that blog’s credibility is mainly a function of the blogger’s biases and backgrounds and not on advertisements. Half of those bloggers who responded say they would like to put paid ads in their blog.

So where do the Filipino healthcare blogger fit in?I can only speculate that the general habits and motivations of Filipino bloggers may see some semblance to their global counterparts. But it is imperative that this has to be seen in the light of Filipino advocacies and concerns. Healthcare issues are generally a very sensitive and controversial areas of discussion in the Philippines.
